While in Cincinnati on business for Procter & Gamble, Lou
Maurio, a New York City advertising executive, was inspired
to write a song after seeing a homeless woman and child in
Fountain Square.
The song, "They Aren't Far Away," became the foundation
of his campaign for the city's FreeStore FoodBank, the most
successful fundraising campaign in the history of the organization.
Lou received the "Key to the City" from the Mayor.
But more importantly, he felt the satisfaction of working
for the organization, while he continued to create campaigns
for nationally known products from Folgers Coffee to Continental
Airlines.
His desire to do even more for nonprofits and the people
they assist, inspired the creation of SRM, Socially Responsible
Marketing. An organization devoted to creating motivating,
affordable strategic communications for corporations and non-profit
organizations that want to make a difference.
